Gross Reservoir, located west of Boulder and a 20 min. drive from Flagstaff point (restaurant and
lookout) is man made lake that receives runoff of snow and ice from Winterpark. It's bit of a
treacherous drive as most of it is on dirt road but it's worth the trip for a nice picnic. It's a popular
spot for a leisurely ride in a kayak but motor boating is prohibited. Vistas are a plenty as your
surrounded by rolling hills and the Rockies off in the distance, not to mention Gross Dam as well.
On the way up to the reservoir you'll pass Walker Ranch - a
trail head for hikers - As you may notice on some of the hills
where apparently a forest fire occured some time ago.
